Tania Saleh is a contemporary alternative Lebanese singer/songwriter/visual artist, one of the rare female singers/songwriters in the Arab world and one of the most respected independent artists in the region. Her lyrics mirror the reality of the Lebanese/Arab social and political turmoil.
Since her early debut in 1990, she has experimented with various genres, always challenging herself to explore new styles (musically, lyrically and visually), which has resulted in a fresh and original mix of Lebanese contemporary art. She revives traditional Arabic music like “Tarab”, “Mawwal” and “Dabke” but also experiments with folk, alternative rock, bossa nova, jazz and most recently electronic music. http://www.taniasaleh.com/about

Leaving France for India, she had some ideas on a possible new album. Coming back she knew what this second album would; this is the reason of this title “From Kolkata”. A lot African, a little French, a little Asian, a little jazz, a little gospel choir, a great sound, A wonderful voice. Four stars.
Suistamon Sähkö | Tuonelan tyttö | Kalevala elävänä tai kuolleena |
Kalevala elävänä tai kuolleena (Kelevala alive or dead) Don’t understand what this compilation is about … reading bits in pieces in Finnish Press (loosing a lot in translation) it’s like coming in half way into a story and not knowing the main characters. I’m sort of guessing a well known Finnish musician has stopped writing and recording and this album is something to do with that – or else it’s a compilation of band who appeared at a festival – it’s an awfully interesting album.
On August 30, the Vol 1 album, Kalevala Alive or Dead, will be released. The recording features an interesting set of domestic artists who could not be directly associated with the Kalevala. Featured are Judge Nurmio & Doctor Hillilä, Paleface & Maija Kauhanen & Paleface & Mikko Heikinpoika, Ismo Olando, Pharao Pirttikangas & Nubians, Pekko Käppi & K: H: H, Mara Balls, Jaakko Laitinen & Wrong Money and Suistamo Electric. Artists have been given a free hand to interpret their own contradictory relationship to this classic, and the most interesting performances will soon be heard on this recording. All the songs are new songs written and lyrics specifically for this album.
