Jama Narenji Kefaya & Elaha Soroor “Songs of Our Mothers” listed by Songlines as one of the best albums of 2019. “Afghan singer Elaha Soroor and award-winning music/producer duo Kefaya (Al MacSween & Giuliano Modarelli) have joined forces for a mighty and mesmerising new album, Songs Of Our Mothers; a fresh, vibrant take on Afghan folk music filtered through myriad forms, from spiritual jazz and dub to Indian classical music and electronica.” Bella Union Records
Skitnica (feat. Sreta) Mostar Sevdah Reunion Sreta “the Balkan Autumn” (feat. Sreta)One of my favourite albums of last year with MSR featuring Sreta ”
Milutin Sretenović – Sreta’s story is an extreme version of it, a true rags to (almost) riches story. And if today he doesn’t enjoy real “riches”, there have been some rags alright along the way. One just needs to ask him a question and the stories come pouring out, each one madder and extreme than the other.
He was born in Eastern Serbia, during the second year of the then newly-formed socialist Yugoslavia. Of five siblings, he was the youngest. When Sreta was just a month old baby, his father was murdered. Mobilised by the communist partisan army, his dad went AWOL, but was caught and mobilized by Serbian Chetniks, the hard-core nationalists. He escaped again. “He wouldn’t shoot at another Serb for anything in the world”, says Sreta today with conviction.
Lamouni Li Gharou Minni Ghalia Benali from Tunisia
Pusztinai nagy hegy alatt Kollár-Klemencz László in addition to being a singer/songwriter he is an author, director and filmmaker. From Budapest.
Love Corail Louise Verneuil
Janka Prez Gora Vurveshe Blato Zlato: “Hailed as a band with “galactic ambitions” by The New Orleans Advocate, Blato Zlato is a powerhouse of accomplished players from Europe and the United States. The band puts a modern Louisiana twist on traditional music from the Balkans and Eastern Europe, with a particular focus on Bulgarian music and dark, improvisational arrangements.”
Carta Silvana Estrada From Mexico
Eyes of Mj Pintandwefall from Finland. Playing for 14 years this is from their 6th album.
Mary Popkids from Budapest
