Travelling between Ljubljana and Dublin January 2017

I spent a lot of time travelling in January. I had started teaching in Dublin again and was living in Slovenia. Transport between the two is not easy. So I found myself trying different routes, partly to see what can be done on a budget and partly because I had the time to experiment.

Ljubljana Airport Business Lounge

I have written about this lounge before. It is probably one of my favourites. It is not big or fancy. It is simple with just about everything you need. Lets start with Lasčo beer on tap, nice little bowls of… Continue Reading →

How travel has changed in under two decades

I have travelled a lot since the mid 1990s. This week I was in Istanbul for the first time since 1996 and I began to think about how travel has changed. Here are 15 thoughts. There are plenty more. This… Continue Reading →

Airport Lounge: No 1 Stansted

Now don’t get confused. There are two No 1 Gatwicks; domestic and international. If you are on a domestic flight and go to the international, it causes all sorts of problems and hullabaloos. The international is at Gate 16. The… Continue Reading →

Airport Lounge S. Gokcen Istanbul

Small comfortable lounge with snacks, soft drinks, beer, wine. No hot food when I was there at breakfast time, but there was cereal, sandwiches. Good Lavazza coffee. TV tuned to music channel. Turkish news papers a few English language mazazines…. Continue Reading →

No 1 Gatwick – this time with rubbery food

This is a pleasant lounge. But tonight I spent £10 on rubbery chips and almost inedible  burger. How can you make rubbery chips? Seriously? Still, nice staff and good free wine – but I’ll not be eating here again. Previous… Continue Reading →

Marhaba lounge Dubai

First impressions were not good. One of the worlds great airport and I was expecting something outstanding. The book/cover judgement comes into operation here. The very busy and very ordinary lounge blossoms at around 4 am when you begin to… Continue Reading →

Bidvest Lounge Cape Town

This is a small but just about everything you need lounge at the far end of Cape Town airport. Very comfortable with places to sit near and away from the TVs which are tuned to Sky International. Good coffee –… Continue Reading →

No1 Lounge Birmingham Airport

Birmingham has always been my least favourite airport. No 1 Lounge is good. Similar to but better than No 1 Gatwick, it has a big “complimentary” bar, a good range of “complimentary” food and a reasonable pay for menu. Very… Continue Reading →

Belfast City Airport – Priority Pass lounge

The Flybe is now the PP lounge with British Airways lounge next door. Pretty straight forward: beer, wine, snacks, soft drinks and muffins. Newspapers, magazines. Free wifi. Comfortable with view of runway.

Gatwick No 1 – Airport lounge

I keep meaning to keep a note of airport lounges for my own use. As with most things, once home, I never manage to get round to it. But technology and wifi suddenly makes it easier. Airport lounges do change… Continue Reading →
