As you walk up the hill from Bled’s town centre on the main road towards the Post Office and the public library, when you reach the Okarina restaurant where Paul McCartney once had dinner – vegetarian of course – Okarina is noted for its vegetarian cuisine, right opposite there is a green shack. Outside there’s a basket which at another time would have been tethered to a balloon floating above the lake and the castle. There are bicycles for hire. The shack is filled with the stuff of adventures. It attracts your attention because it looks a little out of place, perhaps a little out of time. It belongs here, but did it come from somewhere else? There is nothing like it in Bled.
I’m Davy Sims – I wrote the Firsthand Guides to Bled. Over the last few years, I spent a lot of time living in the town and talking to the people who help make Bled the Jewel in Slovenia’s crown. One of those people owns that green, out of place, out of time, hut.
This is episode is an interview with Domen who runs 3glav Adventures. His family have owned the hut for over 100 years.
This is part of an interview with Domen that you can read in the Special and Standard editions of “Firsthand Guide to Bled Slovenia 2018”. The books are packed with information about places to go and things to do, bar and restaurant reviews and interviews with other people who help make Bled the fantastic destination it is.
